Wajdi Mouawad
How is love still possible in a society stained by guilt, marked by experiences of violence? In his latest piece – premiered at the 2025 Epidaurus Festival under the title Europa’s Pledge – the French-Lebanese playwright Wajdi Mouawad deals with entanglements of guilt, the burden of silence and traumata that are inherited through generations. Krzysztof Warlikowski staged Wajdi Mouawad’s piece, “the gripping history of our continent’s scandals” (Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung), with the ensemble of Warsaw’s Nowy Teatr – and brings the “impressive” production on tour to the Salzburg Festival on three evenings (10, 12 and 13 August at SZENE Salzburg).
