What happens when a performance pushes beyond the boundaries of a traditional theatre evening?
Festival President Kristina Hammer in conversation with director Nicolas Stemann about the unique form of UNTER TIEREN, which emerged from working with Elfriede Jelinek’s text – and about how a production can be precisely composed while retaining the openness of a large-scale improvisation.
This openness is also reflected in the unusual approach to intervals: UNTER TIEREN has no traditional intermission. During the performance, audiences are free to leave the auditorium, spend time in the outdoor area and continue following the performance on screens – before returning inside whenever they wish. This creates a deliberately open and more relaxed experience, offering space to breathe amid the intensity of the themes.
