After the leading team from 1991 on – Gerard Mortier, Hans Landesmann and Heinrich Wiesmüller – had been presented, the Artistic Director announced his plans in detail in spring 1990: besides the schedule for the first season of 1992 also the cooperation with the Salzburg Mozarteum Foundation, the extension of the repertoire to new venues, the integration of sponsors and so forth.

Events of world politics were reflected in the interim season of 1990: the opening address was held by the author and earlier dissident Václav Havel, who had been President of the Czech Republic for six months by then.

On the 70th anniversary of the Festival, Helmuth Lohner appeared as the new Jedermann/Everyman. In summer 1984 Gernot Friedel, for ten years Haeusserman’s assistant, had taken over the production of Jedermann/Everyman after his death. Subsequently, Friedel took charge of the ‘Play of the Rich Man’s Death’ until 2001. Under his stage direction, and in Imre Vincze’s stage setting, distinguished actors such as Helmuth Lohner, Gert Voss (as of 1995) and Ulrich Tukur (as of 1999) played Jedermann.
