Canto Lirico
It is noteworthy that one of the most famous songs for lute by John Dowland is entitled “Flow, my tears”. When the mezzo-soprano Lea Desandre – winner of the 2022 “Opus Klassik” award as Singer of the Year and well familiar to Salzburg audiences – combines works by the Elizabethan composer with music by the “Orpheus Britannicus” Henry Purcell on 29 July, hardly an eye is likely to remain dry in the audience.
The programme Songs of Passion, which she has devised together with lutist Thomas Dunford and his Ensemble Jupiter, opens the series “Canto Lirico”, which also includes an evening of baroque music with Kate Lindsey and the Ensemble Arcangelo (18 August) and a performance by the incomparable belcanto tenor Juan Diego Flórez (31 August).
