KOMITAS
Patarag
‘O deep mystery, incomprehensible, without beginning.’ This was how the 12th-century Armenian master Xač’atur Vardapet Taronec’i described the ‘holy liturgy’ of the Armenian Apostolic Church, which is summed up in the term ‘patarag’ — a word that also means ‘sacrifice’. The third part of the concert focuses on the liturgical composition of the same name by the Armenian priest and composer Komitas (1869—1935). It will be complemented by medieval monodies as well as choral songs by classical and contemporary composers such as Yervand Yerkanyan and Daniel Yerazhisht.
