Bettina Ranch

Berlin-born mezzo-soprano Bettina Ranch initially studied the violin before focussing on singing. She has recently appeared at such renowned opera houses as the Berlin State Opera, the Deutsche Oper Berlin, the Komische Oper Berlin, the Hamburg State Opera, the Aalto Theatre in Essen, the Grand Théâtre de la Ville de Luxembourg and the Dutch National Opera, appearing in works by such composers as Handel, Mozart and Wagner.
On the concert platform, she has performed sacred works by Mozart, Bach and Handel, the Verdi Requiem, Dvořák’s Stabat Mater, Mahler’s Das klagende Lied, Bruckner’s Te Deum and Schmidt’s Das Buch mit sieben Siegeln. She works frequently with the Hamburg Philharmonic Orchestra, the International Bach Academy in Stuttgart, the Potsdam Chamber Academy, the Dresden Philharmonic, the Bremen Philharmonic, the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra, the RTVE Orchestra Madrid, the German Symphony Orchestra Berlin, the RIAS Chamber Choir and the Mozarteum Orchestra Salzburg under prominent conductors such as Hartmut Haenchen, Markus Poschner, Simone Young, Helmuth Rilling, Rinaldo Alessandrini, Paul Goodwin and Ivor Bolton.
Since the 2016/17 season Bettina Ranch has been a member of the ensemble at the Aalto Theatre in Essen appearing as Fricka and Schwertleite (Die Walküre), Herodias (Salome), Ludmilla (The Bartered Bride), Gertrude (Hans Heiling), Adalgisa (Norma), Maddalena (Rigoletto), the Ghost of Antonia’s Mother (Les Contes d’Hoffmann), Princess Clarice (The Love for Three Oranges), Fenena (Nabucco), First Maid (Elektra) and Sesto (La clemenza di Tito).
As well as making her debut at the Salzburg Festival, her appearances during the 2018/19 season included her debut in the title role in a new production of Carmen, Emilia (Otello) and Federica (Luisa Miller) in Essen, Beethoven’s Missa solemnis in Lugano, Mahler’s Second Symphony in Cagliari, Ljubljana, Bressanone and Dobbiaco, the Verdi Requiem in Mainz and a concert with lied23 in Steinfurt.
