ABOUT THE PRODUCTION

The delian::quartett embarks on a journey through Shakespeare’s world, exploring the best of the Bard through an original musical lens. Two powerful string quartets of vivid, almost visual impact — Dmitry Shostakovich’s Eighth Quartet and Mendelssohn’s Sixth Quartet — set the stage for the vitality and richness of Shakespeare’s language. That stage will be populated by protagonists from seven of his most important plays: Macbeth, King Lear, Richard III, Hamlet, The Tempest, Twelfth Night and As You Like It. Angela Winkler, whose name has been synonymous with Shakespeare since Peter Zadek’s legendary 1999 production of Hamlet, lends her unique voice to these characters. The programme also features several of Shakespeare’s beguiling sonnets, carried to sublime heights when poetry and music are heard side by side.
