On the opera Káťa Kabanová by Leoš Janáček

When composing Káťa Kabanová in 1920/21, Leoš Janáček painted a musical portrait of a young woman. Torn between her unhappy marriage, her secret love affair, her feelings of remorse and the moral standards of society, Káťa fights both passionately and desperately for happiness and freedom. The Czech composer Janáček described the tonality of spoken language as the ‘echo of a person’s inner life’, for which he sought musical equivalents. The young participants in this camp will embark on a scenic and musical exploration and develop their own perspective on the opera.
