Directing, Theater Pedagogy and Dramaturgy

In the drama camp, young theatre enthusiasts take to a rehearsal stage every day for ten days and immerse themselves in the text and themes of a work programmed as one of the Salzburg Festival’s drama productions. Through theatrical improvisation, stage acting and creative writing activities, the young participants develop their own texts and scenes, culminating in a final stage performance of their production.

There is a limited number of places. The final selection will be made during a two-day workshop in April or May. Registration is only possible online via our registration form.

Drama camp — The Misanthrope

About the play Der Menschenfeind by Molière

For young people aged 14 to 19
Camp language: German

Alceste, the protagonist of Molière’s comedy The Misanthrope, is repelled by the hypocrisy and shallowness of the world around him. He lives by absolute honesty and demands it of others too — which inevitably puts him at odds with his friends and everyone else. What would happen if no smiles were faked, no compliments sugar-coated and no thoughts held back? Would a world of brutal honesty be better — or simply brutal? Are we really good people if we always tell the truth? And why do we lie in the first place? Guided by these questions, the young people at this theatre camp will explore Molière’s work and create their own stage performance through writing, scene work and physical improvisation.
