Salzburg Festival Makers | Josefa Schmeißer & Irmgard Meier
Our new series on “Salzburg Festival Makers” features the various faces behind the scenes of the Salzburg Festival.
Find out from our dedicated festival makers Josefa Schmeißer and Irmgard Meier why they have been pursuing their love of the art of tailoring in our ladies’ tailoring workshop for 30 years and why they simply never stop enjoying it.
The exciting process of creating costumes includes planning, ordering fabric, drawing, cutting and, in some cases, making their own fabric in order to tailor a functional stage outfit – which, in the best case, is easy to put on or seems to float across the stage.
In the months from September to June, mainly the costumes of the choirs and extras are made, whereby in summer the focus of the work is on the soloists’ costumes and many hands work together so that the result can be admired on stage.
