Pianist Yuja Wang is celebrated for her charismatic artistry, emotional honesty and captivating stage presence. She has established her place among the world’s leading artists through her succession of critically acclaimed performances and recordings.
She has performed with the world’s most venerated conductors, including Claudio Abbado, Daniel Barenboim, Gustavo Dudamel, Lorin Maazel, Neville Marriner, Zubin Mehta, Yannick Nézet-Séguin, Antonio Pappano and Esa-Pekka Salonen, and with orchestras including the London Symphony Orchestra, the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the Orchestra dell’Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia and the New York, Berlin, Munich and Vienna Philharmonics. She has also performed at international festivals such as the Salzburg Festival, the Lucerne Festival and the BBC Proms.
In 2025/26 she participated in the season opening concerts of numerous US orchestras, such as the San Francisco Symphony and the Philadelphia Orchestra. Other performances have included concerts with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra and the Cleveland Orchestra. She also toured with the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra and the Mahler Chamber Orchestra and collaborated with David Hockney at London’s Lightroom. An Immersive Odyssey with Yuja Wang premiered at the Philharmonie de Paris.
As a chamber musician, she has developed long-lasting partnerships with several leading artists, notably violinist Leonidas Kavakos, with whom she has recorded the complete Brahms violin sonatas.
In 2009 she signed an exclusive contract with Deutsche Grammophon. She was named Musical America’s Artist of the Year in 2017, and in 2021 received an OPUS Klassik for her world premiere recording of John Adams’s Must the Devil Have All the Good Tunes? with the Los Angeles Philharmonic under the baton of Gustavo Dudamel. Her album The American Project received a Grammy and an OPUS Klassik in 2023.
Yuja Wang was born into a musical family in Beijing. After childhood piano studies in China, she received advanced training in Canada and at the Curtis Institute of Music under Gary Graffman. Her international breakthrough came in 2007, when she replaced Martha Argerich as soloist with the Boston Symphony Orchestra.
