Wolfgang Götz was a chorister in the boys choir at Augsburg Cathedral before studying choral conducting with Kurt Suttner and conducting with Ulrich Weder and Sergiu Celibidache in Munich. As a conductor and head of music, he has worked at theatres in Passau and Baden bei Wien. He was assistant conductor on Bernd Alois Zimmermann’s Die Soldaten in Basel, senior répétiteur on a production of Der Rosenkavalier in Wuppertal, music director of Hänsel und Gretel at Opéra de Lille and he played the piano for Herbert Wernicke’s production of Mauricio Kagel’s Aus Deutschland at La Fenice in Venice. In 1996 he assisted Claudio Abbado on a production of Otello at the Salzburg Easter Festival and was senior répétiteur on Joachim Schlömer’s Mozart trilogy Irrfahrten at the 2006 Salzburg Festival. Two years later he worked as senior répétiteur and chorus master on the first production of Puccini’s Madama Butterfly in India at the National Centre for the Performing Arts in Mumbai.
Wolfgang Götz is currently head of music at the Salzburg Landestheater. Since 2008 he has directed the Salzburg Festival and Theatre Children’s Choir.
