Walter Zeh

Walter Zeh was born in Vienna and studied at the city’s Conservatory and Academy of Music and the Performing Arts. He joined the Vienna State Opera in 1970, remaining with the company for 32 years. During that time he also appeared as a soloist at numerous leading opera houses, including the Bavarian State Opera in Munich, the Deutsche Oper Berlin, La Scala, Milan, the Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona, the Paris Opéra, the Salzburg Festival, the Salzburg Easter Festival and in Japan. He also pursued a busy schedule as a lieder recitalist and concert artist both at home and abroad. He has worked with leading conductors on a number of recordings.

For many years Walter Zeh has served as a vocal and language coach on opera productions, including at the Paris Opéra, the Salzburg Festival and the Salzburg Easter Festival. Since 2002 he has been a freelance chorus master, working on productions at the Baden-Baden Festspielhaus, the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées in Paris, the Ruhrtriennale, the Salzburg Festival, the Bremen Music Festival, the Lucerne Festival, the Salzburg Mozartwoche Festival, the Teatro Real in Madrid, the Frankfurt Opera, the Dortmund Konzerthaus, the St Pölten Festspielhaus and the Vienna Musikverein. He founded the Philharmonia Choir of Vienna in 2006.
