Since its foundation in 2004, the vocal ensemble Vox Luminis — directed by bass Lionel Meunier — has been internationally praised for its unique sound, both with a cast of soloists and in larger productions. Vox Luminis specializes in English, Italian and German repertory from the 17th and early 18th centuries, bringing to life not only well-known masterpieces, but also rare gems. A core of vocal soloists is supplemented, depending on the repertory, by an extensive continuo group, solo instruments or a complete orchestra.

Every year Vox Luminis gives around seventy concerts at major concert halls and festivals worldwide, including at Bozar in Brussels, deSingel in Antwerp, the Auditorio Nacional in Madrid, L’Auditori in Barcelona, the Wigmore Hall in London, the Salle Gaveau in Paris, the Berlin Philharmonie, the Hamburg Elbphilharmonie, New York’s Lincoln Center, the Festival of Flanders and Festival de Wallonie, the Festival de Saintes, the Utrecht Early Music Festival, the Bremen Music Festival, the Bachfest Leipzig, the Aldeburgh Festival and the Boston Early Music Festival, as well as the Salzburg Festival.

Vox Luminis is artist in residence at Concertgebouw Bruges and at the Abbaye Musicale de Malonne. In 2021, the ensemble launched a structural collaboration with the renowned Freiburg Baroque Orchestra and Freiburg Baroque Consort.

In 2024/25 Vox Luminis continued its collaborations with both ensembles and also presented a varied programme with Vox Luminis XL and with its own orchestra, founded in 2014. As part of the Thuringia Bach Festival 2024, Vox Luminis gave the world premiere of a work by the American composer Caroline Shaw.

Vox Luminis has made numerous recordings with Ricercar, Alpha Classics, Ramée and Musique in Wallonie. To mark the ensemble’s 20th anniversary, Ricercar released the CD box set Et resurrexit in 2024.

In 2012 and 2019, Vox Luminis won the Recording of the Year at the prestigious Gramophone Awards. The ensemble’s other awards include ’Klara Ensemble of the Year 2018’, BBC Music Magazine’s ‘Choral Award Winner 2018’, the 2020 Caecilia Prize, three Diapasons d’Or and several German Record Critics’ Awards.
