Thomas Lehman
Baritone

The American baritone Thomas Lehman is an ensemble member of the Deutsche Oper Berlin and a graduate of the Eastman School of Music.
In the 2024/25 season he made house debuts at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, as Peter (Hänsel und Gretel) under Giedrė Šlekytė and at the Detroit Opera House as Guglielmo in Yuval Sharon’s new production of Così fan tutte. At the Hamburg State Opera, he performed the role of Dr Kieron in the world premiere of Unsuk Chin’s Die dunkle Seite des Mondes under Kent Nagano. At the Deutsche Oper Berlin he performed the title role of Verdi’s Macbeth under Enrique Mazzola and Wolfram (Tannhäuser) and made his role debut as Kurwenal (Tristan und Isolde).
In the 2023/24 season Thomas Lehman made his role debut as Wolfram in a concert performance under Donald Runnicles at the Edinburgh Festival and his San Francisco Opera debut as Herald (Lohengrin). He also made role debuts as Yeletsky (The Queen of Spades) and Nixon (Nixon in China) in new productions at the Deutsche Oper Berlin.
His recent concert appearances include Orff’s Carmina Burana with the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra at the opening concert of the 2022 Edinburgh Festival and with the St Louis Symphony Orchestra under Stéphane Denève, and Donner in concert performances of Das Rheingold with the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra under Yannick Nézet-Séguin in Paris, Rotterdam, Dortmund and Baden-Baden.
At the Deutsche Oper Berlin, Thomas Lehman has recently also sung Gunther in Stefan Herheim’s new production of Götterdämmerung, Luzifer in Rued Langgaard’s Antikrist in Ersan Mondtag’s production, Guy de Montfort (Les Vêpres siciliennes) under Enrique Mazzola, Germont (La traviata), Don Fernando (Fidelio), Lescaut (Manon Lescaut) under Simon Rattle, Ford (Falstaff), Marcello (La bohème), Renato (Un ballo in maschera), Figaro (Il barbiere di Siviglia), Count Almaviva (Le nozze di Figaro), Valentin (Faust) and Silvio (Pagliacci).
His past guest engagements also include Ford in Barrie Kosky’s production of Falstaff at the Komische Oper Berlin, Ibn-Hakia in a new production of Iolanta in Bern, Count Almaviva at Theater Basel, Lescaut at the Edinburgh Festival, Silvio at the Teatro de São Carlos in Lisbon and Hindley Earnshaw in Bernard Herrmann’s Wuthering Heights at the Opéra national de Nancy-Lorraine.
