The tenor Theodore Browne was born in Manchester and grew up in Germany, the child of English and South African parents. His wide-ranging repertory includes works by Bach, Mozart, Rossini, Donizetti and Britten.
His engagements in the 2025/26 season have included Conte di Libenskof (Il viaggio a Reims) at the Detmold Landestheater, Don Ramiro (La Cenerentola) and Ernesto (Don Pasquale) at the Darmstadt State Theatre and the title role of Rameau’s Platée at Theater Hagen.
In autumn 2026 he will appear as Lindoro in a new production of L’italiana in Algeri at the Salzburg Landestheater.
He has appeared at the Baden State Theatre, Karlsruhe, the Latvian National Opera in Riga, the English National Opera, the Tyrolean State Theatre in Innsbruck and Glyndebourne Festival in roles such as Don Ramiro, Count Almaviva (Il barbiere di Siviglia), Lindoro and Nemorino (L’elisir d’amore). In 2021 he appeared as Conte di Libenskof in a production of the Accademia Rossiniana ‘Alberto Zedda’ at the Rossini Opera Festival in Pesaro.
As a concert singer he has performed at the Rheingau Music Festival, the Herkulessaal in Munich, the Cologne Philharmonie, with the Borusan Istanbul Philharmonic Orchestra, at the Schwetzingen SWR Festival and at the music festivals of Sopot and Znojmo.
He has won prizes at numerous international singing competitions, including the 2014 Cologne International Music Competition, the 2018 Stignani Competition, the singing competition ‘Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg’ in 2018 and the Queen Sonja Singing Competition in Oslo in 2019.
Theodore Browne studied at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Frankfurt am Main with Thomas Heyer. He has also received mentoring from Helmut Deutsch, Neil Shicoff, Giulio Zappa, Robert Gambill, Ernesto Palacio and Raina Kabaivanska. He currently works regularly with Camilla Ueberschaer.
