The tenor Stefano Gambarino began his musical training in various choirs, before going on to intensive singing studies. He studied vocal chamber music with Erik Battaglia at the Conservatorio Giuseppe Verdi in Turin and developed a wide repertory.
On the operatic stage he has performed roles such as Ismaele (Nabucco), Bastien (Bastien und Bastienne), Danilo (Die lustige Witwe), Pinocchio in Antonio Cericola’s Le avventure di Pinocchio and the title role in Candide. In 2025 he was a soloist at the Salzburg Festival in Barrie Kosky’s Vivaldi pasticcio Hotel Metamorphosis.
As a sought-after concert soloist he has sung in works by Purcell, Schütz, Lully, Charpentier, Caldara, Mozart, Schubert, Gounod, Franck, Ramírez and Johann Sebastian Bach.
He has performed with ensembles including Il Canto di Orfeo, the Academia Montis Regalis, the Accademia Musicale Ruggero Maghini, the Accademia del Ricercare, the Accademia Stefano Tempia, the Coro da camera di Torino, De Sono and laBarocca.
Stefano Gambarino’s engagements have taken him to venues including the Slovenian National Theatre in Maribor, the Opéra de Dijon, the Giovine Orchestra Genovese and the Unione Musicale di Torino. He has worked with conductors including Filippo Maria Bressan, Claudio Chiavazza, Guido Maria Guida, Alessandro De Marchi, Luca Guglielmi, Stefano Romani, Dario Tabbia and Massimiliano Toni.
