Rupert Grössinger

Austrian bass-baritone Rupert Grössinger was born in Salzburg and studied at the town’s Mozarteum University and at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London. He was been awarded scholarships by the Gianna Szel, Emanuel and Sophie Fohn and Richard Wagner Foundations as well as the Guildhall Trust and the London Goodenough Trust.

He made his Dresden State Opera debut in 2020 as Hermann Ortel in Jens-Daniel Herzog’s production of Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg under Christian Thielemann. In 2019 he had sung Ascanio Petrucci (Lucrezia Borgia) under Giacomo Sagripanti at the Théâtre du Capitole de Toulouse. He was heard as Sciarrone (Tosca) at the 2018 Salzburg Easter Festival, where in 2017 he had appeared in Michael Sturminger’s production of Salvatore Sciarrino’s opera Lohengrin under Peter Tilling. He repeated this role for his Elbphilharmonie debut as part of the 2018 Hamburg International Music Festival. He made his La Scala debut in 2015 as the Young Ensign in Alvis Hermanis’s production of Bernd Alois Zimmermann’s Die Soldaten under Ingo Metzmacher. He has received substantial guidance and encouragement from his work with Robert Dean, Krassimira Stoyanova, Sophie Koch, Didier Laclau-Barrère, Rudolf Piernay, Giuseppe Filianoti, José van Dam and Michel Plasson.

From the start of the 2021/22 season Rupert Grössinger will be a member of the Young Ensemble of the Dresden State Opera.
