Rufus Didwiszus studied set and costume design in Stuttgart with Jürgen Rose. Since then, he has worked with directors such as Barrie Kosky, Thomas Ostermeier, Christian Spuck, Sasha Waltz and Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui, at leading opera houses and theatres including the Komische Oper Berlin, the Bavarian State Opera in Munich, the Schaubühne am Lehniner Platz and the Deutsches Theater in Berlin, the Schauspielhaus in Hamburg, the Munich Kammerspiele, the Zurich Opera, the Paris Opéra, the Royal Swedish Opera in Stockholm and the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow. His engagements have also taken him to festivals such as the Salzburg Festival, where he most recently designed the sets for Barrie Kosky’s 2019 production of Orphée aux enfers, the Festival d’Avignon and the Edinburgh International Festival. Together with Joanna Dudley he creates his own music theatre performances, at venues including the Sophiensäle and the Schaubühne in Berlin, and BOZAR in Brussels.
