Raphael Höhn
Tenor

The Swiss tenor Raphael Höhn is a widely sought-after Baroque interpreter and appears regularly in the most renowned concert halls of Europe, such as the Berlin Philharmonie, the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg, the Lucerne Culture and Congress Centre, the Amsterdam Concertgebouw and the Palau de la Música Catalana in Barcelona.
In the 2024/25 season he appeared in all the great works by Johann Sebastian Bach, including the Christmas Oratorio with the Dresden Philharmonic Orchestra and the Magnificat with the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra. He also tours Europe as the Evangelist in the St John Passion with the Freiburg Baroque Orchestra and Vox Luminis. Guest performances take him to the J. S. Bach Foundation in St Gallen, the Bachfest in Leipzig and the Salzburg Festival.
In addition to his focus on Baroque music, his repertory reaches from the Renaissance to contemporary music. He has worked with leading ensembles and orchestras such as the J. S. Bach Foundation in St Gallen, the Netherlands Bach Society, the Dresden Philharmonic Orchestra and the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra.
Lieder is also very important to him. Alongside performances of the great Lieder cycles such as Schubert’s Winterreise and Schumann’s Dichterliebe he enjoys exploring little-known works. In 2023 he released the CD Heimat with Alpha, on which he and his accompanist Shin Hwang presented world premiere recordings of numerous Lieder by the Swiss composer Friedrich Theodor Fröhlich.
Raphael Höhn began his singing training as an alto soloist with the Zurich Boys’ Choir, before studying at the University of the Arts in Zurich and at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague, developing his skills in Classical and early music with Scot Weir, Rita Dams, Michael Chance, Peter Kooij and Jill Feldman. He also participated in masterclasses with Jean-Paul Fouchécourt, Peter Harvey, Andreas Scholl and Gerd Türk and has been further inspired through work with Frans Brüggen, Laurence Cummings, Justin Doyle, Simon Gaudenz, Howard Griffiths, Nikolaus Harnoncourt, Ton Koopman, Václav Luks, Rudolf Lutz, Andrea Marcon and Jos van Veldhoven.
Raphael Höhn is a prize-winner of the 2016 International Johann Sebastian Bach Competition Leipzig.
