Philipp Wagner

Philipp Wagner studied Baroque oboe and recorder with Felicitas Speer-Keldorfer, Dorothee Oberlinger (Mozarteum University Salzburg), Alfredo Bernardini (Conservatorium van Amsterdam), Carin van Heerden (Anton Bruckner Private University in Linz) and Katharina Arfken (Schola Cantorum Basiliensis). He won first prize in the Göttingen Historical Music Series and the La Stravaganza Cluj Baroque Chamber Music Competition (both 2013). In 2009 and 2010 he was a member of the European Union Baroque Orchestra under the direction of Lars Ulrik Mortensen. As an orchestral and chamber musician he has performed at numerous festivals throughout Europe – including the Festival d’Ambronay, the Göttingen International Handel Festival and the London Handel Festival – and also in South Africa, the USA, South Korea and Australia. He is a member of the orchestra of the J. S. Bach Foundation in St Gallen, which since its founding has focussed on performing Bach’s complete vocal works under the direction of Rudolf Lutz, and of the L’Orfeo Baroque Orchestra under the direction of Michi Gaigg.

In addition to his international career as a concert musician with leading European Baroque orchestras, Philipp Wagner teaches historical oboe in the music academy of the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis.
