Paul Blackman

Paul Blackman was born in Perth and studied at the West Australian Academy of Performing Arts. After graduating, he worked with the West Australian Ballet and then toured throughout Australia with the Buzz Dance Theatre. In 2006 he was awarded Best Male Dancer in the Ausdance Awards and nominated for the Helpmann Award. He was invited to New York to work and tour internationally with the Battery Dance Company, where he was also one of the original members of the Dancing to Connect programme, which has now reached over 52 countries worldwide. He subsequently worked and toured internationally with the Jasmin Vardimon Company in the United Kingdom, where he was based until 2010.

Paul Blackman has been a choreographer and movement coach for numerous opera productions at the Salzburg Festival and the Salzburg State Theatre, the Odeon of Herodes Atticus and the Megaron Concert Hall Athens, the Vienna State Opera, the Theater Kiel and the Mecklenburg State Theatre. Over the last decade, he has worked with renowned artists such as Jan Lauwers, David Zambrano, Jasmin Vardimon, Jozef Frucek and Linda Kapetanea, Jonathan Hollander, Susan Quinn, Alexandra Liedtke, Athina Vahla, Felicity Bott, Chrissie Parrott and Simon Dow. His main focus is currently the co-artistic directorship of Jukstapoz Company, of which he is a founding member. He also regularly teaches and coaches dance / choreographic workshops throughout the world for various well-known festivals, institutions and companies.
