Martina Belli

The Italian mezzo-soprano Martina Belli studied at the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Rome and in 2003 made her stage debut as Alisa (Lucia di Lammermoor). Ensuing roles included Second Maid (Elektra) for Rome Opera, Third Lady (Die Zauberflöte) in Viterbo, L’Humana fragilità and Melanto (Il ritorno d’Ulisse in patria) in a touring production including performances in Paris and Amsterdam, Maddalena (Rigoletto) at the Amsterdam Concertgebouw, Federica (Luisa Miller) at the Teatro di San Carlo in Naples, and Lola (Cavalleria rusticana), Enrichetta (I puritani) and Linetta (The Love for Three Oranges) at the Teatro Comunale in Florence. In 2015 she made her debut at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, as Lola.

With Europa Galante and Fabio Biondi she has sung Smeton (Anna Bolena) at the Reate Festival and Anassandro in Vivaldi’s L’oracolo in Messenia in London and Japan. She appears regularly with the ensemble La Venexiana and at prestigious festivals such as the Tage Alter Musik Regensburg, Stuttgart Barock, the Bologna Festival and the Festival MITO SettembreMusica in Milan. She has given concerts in Bolzano, Trento and New York.

Recent engagements include Verdi’s Requiem under Riccardo Muti in Palermo, Lola and Maddalena in Salerno, the title role of Carmen in Parma and Federica at the Teatro Comunale in Bologna.

She has recorded Antonio Caldara’s Morte e sepoltura di Christo with the Stavanger Symphony Orchestra under Fabio Biondi.
