Thanks to his innate musical sensitivity and naturalness, the 25-year-old pianist Mao Fujita has become internationally acclaimed within a very short time. As the winner of the first prize at the Concours International de Piano Clara Haskil and of the silver medal at the Tchaikovsky Competition in 2019 in Moscow, he came to the attention of the international music world while he was still studying in Tokyo.

In the 2024/25 season he continued his impressive series of international recital debuts, including in Munich, Berlin, Essen, Dresden, Zurich, Lucerne, Luxembourg, Linz, Prague, Chicago, Seoul, Taipei, Singapore and Japan. He performed with the Czech Philharmonic at the BBC Proms, with the Vienna Symphony Orchestra at the re-opening ceremony of the Theater an der Wien and with Camerata Salzburg at the Vienna Konzerthaus. He also returned to Carnegie Hall and made his debuts with the Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich, the Philharmonia Orchestra and the National Symphony Orchestra in Washington. This summer he makes his debut at the Salzburg Festival.

Mao Fujita has worked with conductors such as Ryan Bancroft, Semyon Bychkov, Riccardo Chailly, Charles Dutoit, Christoph Eschenbach, Marek Janowski, Domingo Hindoyan, Manfred Honeck, Jakub Hrůša, Andris Nelsons, Vasily Petrenko, Lahav Shani, Dalia Stasevska and Kazuki Yamada, and has performed with orchestras including the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, the Lucerne Festival Orchestra, the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra, the Munich Philharmonic, the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin, the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, the Orchestra Filarmonica della Scala, the Orchestra Sinfonica Nazionale della RAI, the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, the Los Angeles Philharmonic, The Cleveland Orchestra and the Tokyo Metropolitan and Yomiuri Nippon Symphony Orchestras.

His chamber music partners include Marc Bouchkov, Renaud Capuçon, Zlatomir Fung, Kian Soltani, Antoine Tamestit and the jazz pianist Makoto Ozone.

Mao Fujita is an exclusive artist with Sony Classical. In October 2022 he released his debut album of the complete Mozart piano sonatas, for which he was awarded the OPUS Klassik. His second album, 72 Preludes, featuring works by Chopin, Skryabin and Akio Yashiro, followed in autumn 2024.
