Leona Rajakowitsch was born in 1999 in Villach, and decided to learn the flute at the age of five. At the age of 13 she made her solo debut performing Daniele Zanettovich’s Flute Concerto. In 2017 she began her studies at the Mozarteum University in Salzburg with Paolo Taballione. The young flautist is currently completing her master’s degree in concert performance (flute), having graduated from her Bachelor’s degree with distinction in 2021. In the forthcoming winter semester she will study in the famous flute class of Sophie Cherrier at the Paris Conservatoire.
Leona Rajakowitsch has taken part in masterclasses with renowned flautists such as Emmanuel Pahud, Philippe Bernold, Michael Martin Kofler, Walter Auer and Jasmine Choi. She has received further artistic inspiration and guidance for her chamber music activities from instrumentalists such as Stefan Schilli, Radovan Vlatković, Cibrán Sierra Vázquez and Stephen Fitzpatrick. In addition, she is dedicated to the development of new concert formats, and is constantly exploring new collaborations with artists from different disciplines.
Her special interest in contemporary music has led her to give numerous world premieres. In June 2023, for example, she performed the work Postcards by the French composer Henry Fourès as part of a portrait concert.
Leona Rajakowitsch is a winner of the Bruno-Gironcoli-Förderpreises (promotional award).
