Kristina Mkhitaryan is a graduate of the Galina Vishnevskaya Theatre Studio in Moscow and the Gnessin Academy of Music, where she studied with Ruzanna Lisician. A distinguished competitor, she won Second Prize at Plácido Domingo’s Operalia (2017), First Prize at both the Queen Sonja International Competition in Oslo (2013) and the Viotti Competition in Vercelli (2014), and Third Prize at Neue Stimmen (2013). Other accolades include prizes at the Francisco Viñas, Obukhova, Bella Voce and Glinka competitions.

Kristina has appeared with conductors such as Bertrand de Billy, Domingo Hindoyan, Keri-Lynn Wilson, Fabio Biondi, Maxim Emelyanychev, Leonardo García Alarcón, and Jakub Hrůša.Operatic highlights include Micaëla (Carmen) at the Royal Opera House, La Traviata at the Deutsche Oper Berlin, Bayerische Staatsoper, Royal Opera House, Palm Beach Opera and Opera di Roma, and Gilda (Rigoletto) with Opera Australia, Hamburgische Staatsoper and Opéra Bastille. She has also performed Tatiana (Eugene Onegin) in London, Barcelona and Madrid, and Medora (Il Corsaro) in Valencia. At Dutch National Opera she sang Anicia Eritea (Eliogabalo) and later the title role in Donizetti’s Maria Stuarda. Other notable appearances include Giulietta (I Capuleti e i Montecchi) at Bergen Opera, Les Indes Galantes and Il Giasone in Geneva, and La Traviata and Rinaldo (Armida) at Glyndebourne.A regular guest at the Wiener Staatsoper, her roles there include La Traviata, L’elisir d’Amore (Adina), Carmen (Micaëla), Turandot (Liù) and Massenet’s Manon. She recently made her role debut as Mimì (La Bohème) at the Metropolitan Opera, where she previously sang Musetta. Her concert work includes Rachmaninoff’s The Bells with the London Philharmonic Orchestra, Gorecki’s Symphony No. 3, and Exsultate, jubilate with Radio France under Leonardo García Alarcón.

In 2025/26 she returns to the Metropolitan Opera for Carmen (Micaëla), the Wiener Staatsoper for Manon and Les pêcheurs de perles (Leïla), and Bergen Opera for La Traviata. She also appears in concert at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées alongside Aigul Akhmetshina.
