Krassimir Sterev

The accordionist Krassimir Sterev performs internationally as a soloist and chamber musician, in ensembles and orchestras and at prestigious international festivals. He also participates in numerous theatre and dance productions, and devises projects for children and young people.
Krassimir Sterev has been a member of Klangforum Wien since 2003. He has also performed with the Vienna Philharmonic under Pierre Boulez and Daniel Barenboim, the Los Angeles Philharmonic under Mirga Gražinytė-Tyla, the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin under Susanna Mälkki, the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, the ORF Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra, and the ensembles Musikfabrik and PHACE.
As a chamber musician, he is a member of Trio Amos, which was founded in 2000 and which specializes in contemporary music.
Krassimir Sterev is especially interested in the development of new repertory for accordion. He has given world premieres of works written for him by numerous composers, among them Pierluigi Billone, Aureliano Cattaneo, Chaya Czernowin, Stylianos Dimou, Clemens Gadenstätter, Bernhard Gander, Dorothea Hofmann, Mirela Ivičević, Peter Kerkelov, Hannes Kerschbaumer, Bernhard Lang, Michalis Lapidakis, Olga Neuwirth, Simeon Pironkoff, Francesca Verunelli and Dragomir Yossifov.
Krassimir Sterev was born in Bulgaria, studied at Graz’s University of the Arts and completed his training as a scholar in the solo accordion class at the Royal Danish Academy of Music. Teachers who have especially influenced his musical development include Mogens Ellegaard, James Crabb and Georg Schulz.
Since October 2015 Krassimir Sterev has taught accordion at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Munich.
