Katharina Konradi

Katharina Konradi was born in Bishkek and is the first soprano from Kyrgyzstan to have an international career as a Lied, concert and opera singer.

In 2018 she made her debut at the Hamburg State Opera as Ännchen (Der Freischütz). Since then, she has been associated with the company as a permanent member of their ensemble, following three years as a member of the ensemble of the Hessian State Theatre of Wiesbaden. Her other engagements have included Zdenka (Arabella) at the Semperoper Dresden, Young Shepherd (Tannhäuser) at the Bayreuth Festival and Sophie (Der Rosenkavalier) under the baton of Vladimir Jurowski at the Bavarian State Opera in Munich.

In the 2022/23 season she appeared at the Hamburg State Opera in roles including Marzelline (Fidelio), Susanna (Le nozze di Figaro), Musetta (La bohème) and Nannetta (Falstaff). Concert projects have been a major focus of the season; these included Mozart’s Mass in C minor with the Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra, a tour with the Ensemble Arcangelo and Jonathan Cohen, New Year’s Eve concerts with the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra under Manfred Honeck, Mahler’s Second Symphony with the Dresden Philharmonic Orchestra and Michael Sanderling, and a concert performance of Beethoven’s Fidelio with the Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich under Paavo Järvi.

Katharina Konradi has appeared in concert with orchestras such as the NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra, the Orchestre de Paris, the Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich, the MDR Symphony Orchestra in Leipzig and the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, and worked with conductors including Thomas Hengelbrock, Manfred Honeck, Paavo Järvi, Kent Nagano, Daniel Harding and Gustavo Dudamel. In December 2022 she appeared in the annual Christmas concert Christmas in Vienna at the Vienna Konzerthaus. In July 2023 she makes her debut at the Salzburg Festival.

Lieder interpretation is an especial passion for the young soprano, and she regularly gives recitals at venues and festivals including the Schubertíada in Vilabertran, the Schubertiade in Hohenems and Schwarzenberg, the Wigmore Hall in London, the Teatro de la Zarzuela in Madrid, the Pierre Boulez Saal in Berlin and the Vienna Konzerthaus. She enjoys fruitful chamber-music collaborations with the Trio Gaspard and the Schumann Quartet.

In March 2021 she released her much-praised CD Liebende with the pianist Daniel Heide, featuring Lieder by Strauss, Mozart and Schubert. In March 2022 she and Trio Gaspard released the CD Russian Roots with Chandos Records.

In 2016 Katharina Konradi won the Deutscher Musikwettbewerb (German Music Competition). Until the end of 2021 she was funded by the BBC as a New Generation Artist.
