The winner of Operalia 2023 and of the Metropolitan Opera’s Eric and Dominique Laffont Competition in New York in 2022, Julie Roset has swiftly established herself as one of the finest coloratura sopranos of her generation.
Highlights of the 2024/25 season include(d) her debuts in Mahler’s Second Symphony with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra under Thomas Søndergård and with the Orchestre de Paris under Esa-Pekka Salonen. She also sang in Handel’s Messiah with lautten compagney Berlin and the Arnold Schoenberg Choir at the Vienna Musikverein and Belinda in concert performances of Dido and Aeneas with the Danish National Symphony Orchestra under Geoffrey Paterson. In addition, she returned to the Opéra Comique as Timna in Rameau’s Samson under Raphaël Pichon and appeared in Les Indes galantes at the Teatro Real in Madrid.
Julie Roset maintains close links with several ensembles: with Leonardo Garcia Alarcón’s Cappella Mediterranea her appearances include Sacrati’s La finta pazza at the Amsterdam Concertgebouw, with Le Concert de la Loge under Julien Chauvin she has sung in performances including Haydn’s The Creation and Handel’s La Resurrezione at the Festival de Saint-Denis, and with Raphaël Pichon and Pygmalion her appearances include a tour of Mendelssohn’s Elijah.
Other important appearances have included her debut in Charpentier’s Médée under William Christie at the Paris Opéra, Amore in Gluck’s Orfeo ed Euridice with Les Arts Florissants under Paul Agnew, Euridice and La Musica in Sasha Waltz’s L’Orfeo at the Teatro Real, and Monteverdi’s L’incoronazione di Poppea at the Festival d’Aix-en-Provence. In 2023 she made her debut at the Salzburg Festival with the Mozarteum Orchestra under Adam Fischer. In 2024 she made her first appearance at New York’s Carnegie Hall with the Baroque ensemble Twelfth Night.
In 2022 she released Salve Regina, a recording of Handel arias with the Millenium Orchestra, on the label Ricercar. Her discography also includes works by Sigismondo d’India, the album Brabant with the ensemble Holland Baroque and Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas with Les Argonautes.
Julie Roset began her musical training at the Conservatoire du Grand Avignon. She went on to study at the Haute École de Musique de Genève, and completed her training on the Artist Diploma course at the Juilliard School in New York.
