The countertenor Julian Schmidlin studied singing at the Basel Academy of Music with Isolde Siebert, graduating with distinction in 2025. He is currently completing postgraduate studies at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis with Rosa Domínguez. He has also received important guidance in masterclasses with artists including Anne Sofie von Otter, Sandrine Piau, Marina Viotti and Margreet Honig. He has received scholarships from the Friedl Wald Foundation and the Ernst Göhner Foundation.
As a soloist, he sang in Veljo Tormis’s Raua Needmine with the Junger Kammerchor Basel. This interpretation was awarded first prize at the Tormis 95: Singing Contest.
Julian Schmidlin is a permanent member of various vocal ensembles and a founding member of the opera society ahimè, with which he develops his own opera projects.
