Julia Doyle

The soprano Julia Doyle is a specialist in Baroque repertory. She made her solo debut as a singer in Handel’s Messiah with Polyphony and the Britten Sinfonia at St John’s Smith Square. Since then, she has worked with conductors such as Frieder Bernius, John Eliot Gardiner, Philippe Herreweghe, Roger Norrington, Gianandrea Noseda and Trevor Pinnock.

Recent highlights have included performances in Vivaldi’s Juditha triumphans at the Amsterdam Concertgebouw, the Château de Versailles and the Theater an der Wien, various tours of Europe and a performance at the BBC Proms with the Monteverdi Choir, works by Monteverdi with La Nuova Musica, Haydn songs with The Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen under Roger Norrington and Handel’s Occasional Oratorio with the Bavarian Radio Chorus and the Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin. She has also performed with ensembles including the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, The English Concert, The King’s Consort, the Royal Handel Players, the RIAS Kammerchor, Tafelmusik, the Netherlands Bach Society and the J. S. Bach Foundation.

Her performances in the 2023/24 season include Handel’s Aci, Galatea e Polifemo at the International Handel Festival in Halle, and, in the autumn, a performance with Vilde Frang and Arcangelo under Jonathan Cohen at the Wigmore Hall in London. A busy recitalist, she works regularly with the lutenist Matthew Wadsworth. Their joint album Devotion, featuring works by Purcell, received much critical acclaim.

Julia Doyle was born in Lancaster, and was a choral scholar at the University of Cambridge, where she studied social and political sciences.
