Jack Lee

The British baritone Jack Lee is a graduate of the Royal Academy of Music in London and has participated in masterclasses with Joyce DiDonato, Brigitte Fassbaender, Etienne Dupuis, Simon Keenlyside, Brindley Sherratt, Ann Murray and Roderick Williams. In 2022 he was a member of Glyndebourne Chorus, performing in La bohème, Don Pasquale, Le nozze di Figaro and the Glyndebourne premiere of Ethel Smyth’s The Wreckers. He is currently a member of the opera studio of Vienna State Opera. This season he has sung the roles of Alessio (La sonnambula), Konrad Nachtigall (Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg), Bello (La fanciulla del West), Marco (Gianni Schicchi), Sebastian (The Tempest) and Figaro (a children’s version of Il barbiere di Siviglia). In the 2022/23 season he sang Fiorello (Il barbiere di Siviglia), Marquis d’Obigny (La traviata), Officer (Dialogues des Carmélites), Johann (Werther), Notary (Don Pasquale) and Pietro Fléville (Andrea Chénier).
Other roles in his repertory include Peter (Hänsel und Gretel) for British Youth Opera, Ramiro (L’Heure espagnole) and Mr Gedge (Albert Herring) for Royal Academy Opera and Papageno (Die Zauberflöte). He has also studied the title roles of Thomas’s Hamlet and Britten’s Billy Budd, and Zurga (Les Pêcheurs de perles) and Valentin (Faust). Along with his opera appearances Jack Lee has appeared in numerous concert venues across the UK as a recitalist, and performed as a soloist in concert works including Vaughan Williams’s Sea Symphony, Stanford’s song cycle Songs of the Fleet, Mahler’s Lieder eines fahrenden Gesellen and Orff’s Carmina Burana. He is especially committed to performing works by female composers.
Jack Lee was a finalist at the 2021 Kathleen Ferrier Awards and the Dean and Chadlington Summer Festival singing competition, and at the Singer of the Year Competition of Hurn Court Opera. In 2022 he was a semi-finalist at the prestigious Tenor Viñas Competition in Barcelona and at the Handel Singing Competition in London.
