Henning von Schulman

Swedish bass Henning von Schulman completed his studies at the Royal Danish Opera Academy in Copenhagen in 2013, the year in which he won the first prize in the International Otto Edelmann Singing Competition in Vienna and the second prize in the Wilhelm Stenhammar International Music Competition in Sweden. From 2013 to 2018 he was a member of the Royal Danish Opera.

In March 2022 Henning von Schulman made his debut with the Deutsche Oper in Berlin as Raimondo (Lucia di Lammermoor), a role he had previously sung with the Cologne Opera.
He made his Salzburg Festival debut in 2018 as Petrus in Beethoven’s Christus am Ölberge and as the First Soldier in Salome. In 2019 he toured Japan, taking part in performances of Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony with the Stockholm Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.

Among Henning von Schulman’s other engagements have been Fasolt (Das Rheingold) for the Gothenburg Opera, Colline (La bohème), Lodovico (Otello) and Banco (Macbeth) in Copenhagen and Sparafucile (Rigoletto) for the Malmö Opera, where he will be returning in 2022/23 as Figaro (Le nozze di Figaro).

As a concert artist Henning von Schulman has appeared in Mozart’s Idomeneo with Concerto Köln under Kent Nagano and, in 2018, in Verdi’s Requiem with the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra.

In addition to his work as an opera singer and concert artist, Henning von Schulman is also in demand as a song recitalist in a repertoire that includes Schubert’s Winterreise and Mussorgsky’s Songs and Dances of Death.
