Gunde Jäch-Micko was born in Vienna and grew up in a large family on the outskirts of the city. She studied violin, folk harp and piano. From 1978 to 1991 she studied concert violin at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna with Michael Frischenschlager, Ernst Kovacic and Gerhard Schulz. She became especially interested in chamber music, from small groups to chamber orchestras. This led her to study Baroque violin and Baroque performance practice. She received numerous prizes both in the Bundeswettbewerb Jugend musiziert (‘Youth makes music’) and in international violin competitions.
Since 1990 Gunde Jäch-Micko has been a member of Klangforum Wien. Here she had focussed especially on contemporary music, gaining international experience as a concert soloist and as a chamber and orchestral musician. In recent years she has also developed a particular interest in improvisation and has subsequently taken part in performances of conceptual improvisations, and in concerts containing free improvisation.
During her 30-year career Gunde Jäch-Micko has participated in numerous CD and radio recordings.
