Gordon Bintner

Canadian bass-baritone Gordon Bintner appears internationally in a wide range of operatic and concert repertoire. In 2011 he won the grand prize at the OSM (Orchestre symphonique de Montréal) Standard Life Competition and in 2012 won both first prize and audience prize at the Canadian Opera Company’s Ensemble Studio Competition.

Highlights of the 2016/17 season have included Count Almaviva (Le nozze di Figaro) with the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra, the title role in Don Giovanni with the Opéra de Montréal and at the Festival de Beaune, Jesus in Bach’s St Matthew Passion and Junior in Bernstein’s A Quiet Place with the Orchestre symphonique de Montréal and Chorèbe (Les Troyens) for the Frankfurt Opera.

In 2015/16 Gordon Bintner made debuts at the Salzburg Easter Festival as the Herald in Verdi’s Otello under Christian Thielemann, at the Michigan Opera Theatre as Papageno (Die Zauberflöte), at the Manitoba Opera as Figaro (Le nozze di Figaro) and with the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra as Guglielmo (Così fan tutte). As a member of the Canadian Opera Company’s Ensemble Studio he was heard in a number of roles, including Mozart’s Count Almaviva.

Earlier engagements include Junior (A Quiet Place) with the Orchestre symphonique de Montréal under Kent Nagano and his role debuts as Lescaut (Manon) at the Opéra de Montréal, as Nardo (La finta giardiniera) as part of San Francisco Opera’s Merola Opera Program and as Bill (A Quiet Place) with Ensemble Modern. As a participant in the 2015 Salzburg Festival’s Young Singers Project he sang Basilio in a production of Il barbiere di Siviglia for children. Concert appearances include Handel’s Messiah with the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra and Bach’s Christmas Oratorio and Cantatas 75, 147 and 164 with the Orchestre symphonique de Montréal.

Gordon Bintner is a graduate of the Canadian Opera Company’s Ensemble Studio. Since the start of 2016/17 he has been a member of the Frankfurt Opera.
