Géraldine Chauvet
The French mezzo-soprano Géraldine Chauvet studied musicology at Tours University and was a member of the Opera Studio of the Opéra national du Rhin in Colmar. She continued her vocal training with Udo Reinemann, Grace Bumbry and Brigitte Fassbaender.
Her past opera engagements have included Adalgisa (Norma) at the Teatro Comunale in Bologna and in Taormina, Donna Anna in Pacini’s Il convitato di pietra (Don Giovanni) at the Rossini Festival in Wildbad, the title role of Carmen in Modena, Ravenna, Verona (under the baton of Plácido Domingo), Naples and Washington, Charlotte (Werther) alongside Giuseppe Filianoti in Reggio Calabria, Donna Elvira (Don Giovanni) at the Avenches Opera Festival, in Verona and in Innsbruck, Dalila (Samson et Dalila) in Seoul, Mère Marie de l’Incarnation (Dialogues des Carmélites) in Massy and Bordeaux, Adriano (Rienzi) at the Avery Fisher Hall in New York and in Toulouse, Fenena (Nabucco) at the Kennedy Center in Washington and at the Hamburg State Opera, Sesto (La clemenza di Tito) and Nicklausse (Les Contes d’Hoffmann) at the Metropolitan Opera in New York, Kostelnička (Jenůfa) in Avignon, Rosina (Il barbiere di Siviglia) in Beijing, Naples and Oman, Sara (Roberto Devereux) at Carnegie Hall in New York, Franziska Kann in the world premiere of Marc-André Dalbavie’s Charlotte Salomon at the 2014 Salzburg Festival, Gertrude in Thomas’s Hamlet in Avignon and Laura (La Gioconda) at the Teatro Municipal in Santiago de Chile. Recently she has sung Carmen and in a gala for Plácido Domingo at the Arena di Verona, Giulietta (Les Contes d’Hoffmann) in Lausanne, Rosina in Catania, Marie (Moïse et Pharaon) at the Festival d’Aix-en-Provence and at the Opéra national de Lyon and Hedwige (Guillaume Tell) at La Scala, Milan.
On the concert platform Géraldine Chauvet’s appearances include Juliette in Berlioz’s Roméo et Juliette in Amsterdam, Verdi’s Requiem in Washington and Mahler’s Second Symphony in Genoa.
Following her Salzburg performances in Les Contes d’Hoffmann her appearances will include Hedwige in Lausanne and the Marquise de Berkenfield (La Fille du régiment) at La Scala.
