Gail Skrela

Gail Skrela is a freelance dancer and choreographer. She grew up in Toronto (Canada), where she studied at the National Ballet School. She has worked as a dancer and performer at the National Ballet of Canada, the Ballet British Columbia and the Toronto Dance Theatre, and in Europe at Ballett Frankfurt, the Mannheim National Theatre, with Constanza Macras / Dorky Park, at the Schaubühne in Berlin and at the Burgtheater in Vienna.
Engagements as a choreographer have taken Gail Skrela to venues and festivals including the Frankfurt Opera, the Ruhrtriennale, the Dutch National Opera in Amsterdam, the Holland Festival, the Theater an der Wien, the Malmö Opera, the Paris Opéra and the Vienna Volksoper. Important productions in her career to date have included collaborations with Spymonkey (Orphée aux enfers at the Vienna Volksoper) and with the directors Lotte de Beer (Aida in Paris and Jenůfa at the Theater an der Wien), Pierre Audi (Parsifal in Amsterdam), Sven-Eric Bechtolf and Julian Crouch (King Arthur at the Theater an der Wien) and Jürgen Flimm (Orfeo ed Euridice and Manon Lescaut at the Berlin State Opera). At the 2015 Salzburg Festival she was choreographer for a production of Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas conceived and conducted by Thomas Hengelbrock, and in 2016 she participated in Julian Crouch and Brian Mertes’s production of Jedermann.
Gail Skrela has also worked with Saar Magal, Thomas Ostermeier and Constanze Albert.
