Franz Tscheck

Lighting designer Franz Tscheck has been working in the theatre since 1985. Among the venues where his designs have been seen are the Carinthian Summer Festival, the Vienna Chamber Opera and the Schönbrunn Palace Theatre. He has also worked as a freelance designer on various other productions at home and abroad.

He has been a permanent member of the technical staff of the Theater an der Wien since 1999 and designed the lighting for numerous productions there. He has also worked as the lighting designer on productions for the Theater an der Wien’s Chamber Opera. In 2018/19 these productions included Die Zauberinsel based on Shakespeare’s The Tempest with music by Henry Purcell and Ravel’s L’Enfant et les sortilèges in a double bill with Olympia, the second act of Offenbach’s Les Contes d’Hoffmann in an orchestral arrangement by Leonard Eröd. His plans for the Chamber Opera during the 2019/20 season include lighting designs for Gounod’s Faust, Handel’s Giustino, Gluck’s Orphée et Eurydice and the world premiere of Tscho Theissing’s Genia.
