Evan LeRoy Johnson

In the 2022/23 season the American tenor Evan LeRoy Johnson has made his house debut at the San Francisco Opera as Lensky (Eugene Onegin). At the Bavarian State Opera, where he has been a member of the ensemble since 2021, he most recently sang Chevalier de la Force (Dialogues des Carmélites), Brighella (Ariadne auf Naxos), Narraboth (Salome), Edmondo (Manon Lescaut), First Armed Man (Die Zauberflöte) and Cassio (Otello). In addition, he made his debuts at the Festspielhaus Baden-Baden and the Berlin Philharmonie as the Apparition of a Youth (Die Frau ohne Schatten) under Kirill Petrenko.
Future engagements will include his debut at the Royal Danish Opera in Copenhagen, and appearances at the National Theatre in Prague and for Glyndebourne Festival.
Evan LeRoy Johnson’s recent engagements include Rodolfo (La bohème), Count Albert (Die tote Stadt), Steersman (Der fliegende Holländer), Ruiz (Il trovatore) and the Hunchback Brother (Die Frau ohne Schatten) in his resident position in Munich, as well as Pinkerton (Madama Butterfly) in his debut for the Dallas Opera, and in a new production directed by R. B. Schlather at the Frankfurt Opera.
He has also sung Edgardo (Lucia di Lammermoor) at the Lyric Opera of Kansas City, Verdi’s Requiem and Rodolfo for Opera Philadelphia, Don José (Carmen) in Frankfurt, Prince (Rusalka) at the Glyndebourne Festival under Robin Ticciati, Verdi’s Requiem with the Columbus Symphony Orchestra and Steersman in a concert performance of Der fliegende Holländer with the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra under Edo de Waart. He made his debut at the Zurich Opera House as Narraboth (Salome) and at the Des Moines Metro Opera in Indianola (Iowa) as Prince.
He made his European debut with the Norwegian Opera in Calixto Bieto’s staging of Britten’s War Requiem under Lothar Koenigs. His first appearance in Germany was as Don José at the Oldenburg State Theatre.
