Elena Tsallagova

Lyric coloratura soprano Elena Tsallagova studied at the St Petersburg Conservatory and made her debut at St Petersburg’s Mariinsky Theatre, where she won first prize in the Rachmaninoff Competition. She continued her studies in France with Ileana Cotrubaș and was a member of the Atelier Lyrique opera studio of Paris Opéra. In 2008 she appeared at the Paris Opéra in the title role of The Cunning Little Vixen.

Elena Tsallagova’s singing engagements have taken her to the world’s most prestigious opera houses, among them the Bavarian State Opera in Munich, Berlin State Opera, Opéra national du Rhin, Teatro Real in Madrid, Opera Vlaanderen, Lyric Opera of Chicago and the Canadian Opera Company. She has also appeared at the Salzburg, Bregenz and Glyndebourne Festivals, and at the Rossini Opera Festival in Pesaro.

She has a long-term working partnership with the Deutsche Oper Berlin, where she has sung roles such as Micaëla (Carmen), Adina (L’elisir d’amore), Gilda (Rigoletto), Pamina (Die Zauberflöte), Corinna (Il viaggio a Reims) and Liù (Turandot). She has also appeared as Violetta (La traviata) at the State Opera in Stuttgart and in a staged version of Mozart’s arrangement of Handel’s Messiah at Salzburg Mozartwoche, the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées and the Grand Théâtre de Genève. Recently she has sung Fiorilla (Il turco in Italia) at Glyndebourne, and appeared in a staged production of Mozart’s Requiem directed by Romeo Castellucci at the Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía in Valencia, and in Barrie Kosky’s new production of The Cunning Little Vixen in Munich. She has also toured as the Vixen with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra.

In 2022 she made her role debut at Stuttgart State Opera as Alcina.

Future engagements include Eudoxie (La Juive) in Geneva and returns to the Deutsche Oper Berlin as Gilda and as Zdenka (Arabella).
