Biography

Dustin Klein

Dustin Klein was born in Landsberg am Lech and initially trained at his mother’s dance school, with Heinz Manniegel in Munich and at the Jaga Antony School of Ballet in Luxembourg, before completing his studies at the Royal Ballet School in London.  

He began his career with the ballet company of the Deutsche Oper am Rhein, then joined the Bavarian State Ballet in 2008. There he worked with many internationally renowned choreographers. From 2014 to 2021 he held the position of a second soloist in the company.  

Since 2012 Dustin Klein has also worked as a choreographer for opera and ballet, including for the Bavarian State Ballet and the Bavarian State Opera in Munich, the Stanislavsky and Nemirovich-Danchenko Music Theatre in Moscow, the Hamburg State Opera, the Josef Kajetán Tyl Theatre in Pilsen, the Opéra de Dijon, the Origen Festival Cultural in Switzerland and the Salzburg Festival.  

Dustin Klein has won many awards for his work, among them the Ellinor Holland Art Prize and the Cultural Sponsorship Award in Landsberg, the audience prize at the 34th Bavarian Theatre Days festival in Regensburg (2016) and the Bundesjugendballett Production Award at the International Choreographic Competition in Hanover (2019).  

His choreographic work is characterized by close exchanges and collaborations with other artists: directors, set and costume designers, composers, painters, computer animators and film-makers.
