Daniel Folqué
The countertenor Daniel Folqué began his musical training at the Escolania de Montserrat under the direction of Joaquim Piqué and Bernat Vivancos. There he studied piano, violin and singing, worked with conductors such as Neville Marriner and toured Europe with the choir. He went on to further training as a countertenor at the Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya, where he studied classical and contemporary singing with Mireia Pintó and historical song with Lambert Climent. He also received lessons from Carlos Mena, Miriam Feuersinger and Roberto Balconi. He won an award from the Fundació Victoria de los Ángeles and took part in Wolfram Rieger’s international Lied course.
The countertenor has appeared at the Festival Oude Muziek Utrecht, the Rudolstadt Festival and the Bachcelona Festival, and has worked with choirs such as the Collegium Vocale Gent, the Ensemble Daedalus, the Ensemble O Vos Omnes and the chamber choir of the Palau de la Música. He is a founding member of the group Cor Cererols.
Under the direction of Václav Luks he appeared in the role of Hercules in the secular cantata Laßt uns sorgen, laßt uns wachen BWV 213 at the opening concert of the Bachcelona Festival. His repertory also includes works such as Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas, Monteverdi’s Selva morale et spirituale, Bach’s Magnificat and Mozart’s Requiem. As an award winner of the Bach Scholarship of the Fundación Salvat he has appeared as a soloist in Cantatas BWV 12, 22, 23, 32, 44 and 150.
Daniel Folqué has participated in recordings of the albums Cum Silentio with Cor Cererols and Epistulae ad Sagittarium with the Ensemble O Vos Omnes.
