Christophe Dumaux is one of the leading countertenors of his generation. He made his international breakthrough in 2022 as Eustazio (Rinaldo) under René Jacobs at the Festival Radio France Occitanie Montpellier. He works regularly with conductors including William Christie, Emmanuelle Haïm, Gianluca Capuano, Giovanni Antonini, Andrea Marcon, Ivor Bolton, Philippe Jaroussky, Ottavio Dantone, Francesco Corti and Yannick Nézet-Séguin, and with directors such as Claus Guth, David McVicar, Robert Carsen, Calixto Bieito, Barrie Kosky, David Alden, Christof Loy, Barbora Horáková and Richard Jones. Orchestras with which he has performed include the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra, the Philadelphia Orchestra and the Orchestre Métropolitain.
The works of Monteverdi, Mozart and above all Handel are important focuses of his singing activity. He has sung Ottone (Agrippina) at the Hamburg State Opera, the title role of Orlando at the Theater an der Wien, Polinesso (Ariodante) at the Vienna State Opera, the Salzburg Festival, the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow and most recently at the Paris Opéra and Athamas (Semele) at the Zurich Opera House.
He has appeared as Tolomeo in Giulio Cesare at venues and festivals including the Metropolitan Opera in New York, the Salzburg Festival, La Scala, Milan, and the Paris Opéra. He most recently performed the title role in the same opera at the Dutch National Opera in Amsterdam.
Other engagements have included Melindo in Vivaldi’s La verità in cimento in Zurich, the title role of Il Giustino at the Berlin State Opera, the title role of Cavalli’s Giasone for Opera Vlaanderen and Endimione (La Calisto) at La Scala.
He performed his first Mozart role — Farnace (Mitridate) — in 2014 at the Drottningholm Palace Theatre, reprising the role in Paris under Emmanuelle Haïm. In the 2023/24 season he made his house debut as Orfeo in Gluck’s Orfeo ed Euridice at the Sydney Opera.
Engagements in the 2024/25 season have included Polinesso at the Opéra national du Rhin in Strasbourg, Arsamene (Serse) and Nerone (Agrippina) in Zurich and a tour through the USA and Europe with concert performances of Giulio Cesare.
Christophe Dumaux appears in numerous CD recordings for labels such as Ambroisie, harmonia mundi and Naïve. He appears on DVD recordings from Glyndebourne, the Theater an der Wien and the Salzburg Festival as Tolomeo.
