Christian Immler

German bass-baritone Christian Immler is a multifaceted artist whose career spans the worlds of Lieder, oratorio and opera.

Recent highlights include Rocco (Leonore) with René Jacobs and the Freiburg Baroque Orchestra, widely acclaimed recordings of Bach’s St Matthew Passion and St John Passion with Bach Collegium Japan, cantatas by Bach, Werner and Albrechtsberger at Müpa in Budapest, Haydn’s Die Schöpfung with the Geneva Chamber Orchestra, Bach’s Magnificat with Les Violons du Roy in Canada, the Weihnachtsoratorium with the Orchester der Klangverwaltung and Der Freischütz at the Opéra de Rouen and the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées with Laurence Equilbey, as well as recitals of Winterreise and An die ferne Geliebte.

Forthcoming projects include Mahler’s Eighth Symphony with the Minnesota Orchestra, Mendelssohn’s Elijah with Bach Collegium Japan, Haydn’s Stabat Mater and Salve Regina with the Basel Chamber Orchestra, Telemann’s Orpheus with the B’Rock Orchestra, the Music Master (Ariadne auf Naxos) in Limoges and Don Fernando (Fidelio) at the Opéra Comique in Paris.

Christian Immler has appeared in concert at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg, the Gewandhaus in Leipzig and the Sydney Opera House, as well as at the Salzburg, Aix-en-Provence and Lucerne Festivals and the BBC Proms.

A keen recitalist, he has performed at Wigmore Hall, the Frick Collection in New York, the Philharmonie in Paris, the Mozarteum in Salzburg and the Tonhalle in Zurich and enjoys a longstanding partnership with pianist Helmut Deutsch. Their latest CD-project is devoted to the songs of Hans Gál. He also collaborates regularly with Christoph Berner, Kristian Bezuidenhout and Danny Driver.

Following his early training in the Tölz Boys’ Choir, Christian Immler studied with Rudolf Piernay at the Guildhall School of Music in London. He is professor of voice at the Kalaidos Fachhochschule in Zurich, has taught at the International Summer Academy of the Mozarteum in Salzburg and served on several jury panels. His recordings have been nominated for a Grammy and won the Echo Klassik Award, the German Record Critics’ Prize and a Gramophone Award.
