Chiara Skerath

Swiss-Belgian soprano Chiara Skerath made two acclaimed debuts during the 2017/18 season: as Mélisande (Pelléas et Mélisande) at the Opéra National de Bordeaux and as Poppea (L’incoronazione di Poppea) for the Angers Nantes Opéra. She also appeared in several productions at the Paris Opéra. In 2014 she won the audience prize at that year’s Queen Elisabeth Competition in Brussels, the first prize at the 2013 International Nadia and Lili Boulanger Competition and an Emmerich Smola Scholarship Award in 2012.

Chiara Skerath has made a name for herself in Mozart’s roles, notably Zerlina (Don Giovanni) at the Opéra de Versailles and the Drottningholm Festival, Despina (Così fan tutte) at the Frankfurt Opera and the Bern Concert Theatre, Servilia (La clemenza di Tito) for the Opéra du Rhin, Pamina (Die Zauberflöte) for the Opéra de Saint-Étienne and Ninetta in a concert performance of La finta semplice in London’s Queen Elizabeth Hall. She made her Salzburg Festival debut in 2013 as the First Lady in a production of The Magic Flute for Children. Her wide-ranging repertoire also includes Eurydice and Cupid (Orphée et Eurydice), Adina (L’elisir d’amore), Norina (Don Pasquale), an Italian Singer (Capriccio) and Eliza Doolittle (My Fair Lady). Among the conductors with whom she has worked are Christian Thielemann, Marc Minkowski, John Eliot Gardiner, Ingo Metzmacher and Laurence Equilbey.

In 2018/19 she was heard as Clorinda (La Cenerentola) and the First Lady (Die Zauberflöte) at the Paris Opéra and as Aennchen on a European tour of Der Freischütz with the Insula orchestra. Their tour will continue in 2019/20 with performances at the Grand Théâtre de Luxembourg, the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées in Paris, London’s Barbican Centre and the Opéra de Rouen.

Chiara Skerath is known for her performances of German lieder and French mélodies, which she has performed all over Europe with the pianist Antoine Palloc. She worked on this repertoire extensively with Ruben Lifschitz at the Fondation Royaumont. She also attended Glenn Chambers’s class at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse in Paris and now works regularly with Annick Massis.
