Known for his infectious energy and great openness, Bas Wiegers is one of the most exciting conductors of our times. As a guest of European symphony orchestras, soloistic ensembles and opera houses, he confidently covers repertory spanning from the Baroque era to the music of today. His musical range is demonstrated through his second season as an associated conductor of the Munich Chamber Orchestra, in which he performs works by Haydn, Weill and Dutilleux, and world premieres by Márton Illés and Chaya Czernowin. In 2023/24 he also conducts subscription concerts with the Concertgebouw Orchestra for the first time, and makes his debuts with the Belgian National Orchestra, the ORF Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra and the Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra.

Until summer 2022 he was first guest conductor with Klangforum Wien. His most recent projects with the ensemble were the premieres of the projects AMOPERA at the Tyrolean Festspiele Erl and Umbruch with Thomas Hampson in Vienna.

He has worked with all the major orchestras in his homeland of the Netherlands. He has also appeared as a guest conductor with orchestras including the SWR Symphony Orchestra, the Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Estonian National Symphony Orchestra, the Britten Sinfonia and Ensemble Modern. He has been repeatedly invited to conduct at the Opéra National de Lorraine, the Klagenfurt Stadttheater and at international festivals such as the Aldeburgh Festival, the Eight Bridges in Cologne, November Music, the Prague Spring International Music Festival, the Ruhrtriennale, the Vienna Festival and the Salzburg Festival. He offers insights into his work process in the context of his current projects through his podcast The Treasure Hunt.

He has long-term musical partnerships with composers including Georges Aperghis, Georg Friedrich Haas, Helmut Lachenmann, Rebecca Saunders and Salvatore Sciarrino.

Following studies in Amsterdam and Freiburg, Bas Wiegers had a successful career as a violinist, with a particular focus on historical performance practice. Since receiving a conducting scholarship from the Kersjes Foundation, and working as an assistant to Mariss Jansons and Susanna Mälkki with the Concertgebouw Orchestra, he has concentrated entirely on conducting.
