Known for his infectious energy and great openness, Bas Wiegers is one of the most exciting conductors of our times. As a guest of European symphony orchestras, soloistic ensembles and opera houses, he confidently covers repertory ranging from the Baroque era to the music of today.

His musical scope is demonstrated in his third season as associated conductor of the Munich Chamber Orchestra, with which ensemble he appears in performances in Munich, at Klangspuren Schwaz, at the Now! Festival of the Essen Theatre and Philharmonie and at the Mozartfest in Würzburg. In 2024/25 he also returned to perform with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, the SWR Symphony Orchestra, the ORF Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra and the Slovenian Philharmonic Orchestra. To celebrate Pierre Boulez’s centenary in 2025 he toured Boulez’s composition Répons with the Asko Schönberg Ensemble in the Netherlands and Belgium. He also made his first guest appearance with Musikfabrik Köln at Musikfest Berlin, and appears with Ensemble Modern at the Venice Biennale and at the Salzburg Festival.

With Klangforum Wien, of which he was principal guest conductor until summer 2022, he appeared at the 2024 Tongyeong International Music Festival and conducted Haas’s Koma at the 2024 Salzburg Festival.

He has worked with all the major orchestras in his native Netherlands. He has also appeared as a guest conductor with the Belgian National Orchestra, the Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Estonian National Symphony Orchestra, the Trondheim Symphony Orchestra, at the Cologne Opera, the Opéra national de Lorraine and the theatres of Bern and Klagenfurt and with the Britten Sinfonia and the SWR Stuttgart Vocal Ensemble, and performs at festivals such as the Holland Festival, the Vienna Festival, the Prague Spring Festival, the Aldeburgh Festival, the Ruhrtriennale and Eight Bridges in Cologne.

He has long-term musical partnerships with composers including Georges Aperghis, Georg Friedrich Haas, Helmut Lachenmann, Rebecca Saunders and Salvatore Sciarrino.

He offers insights into his work process in the context of his current projects through his podcast The Treasure Hunt. He is also a board member of the Kersjes Foundation, where he is involved in promoting young talent, and a guest professor for orchestral conducting at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam.
