The Austrian mezzo-soprano Anja Mittermüller received her vocal training at the University of Music, Theatre and Media in Hanover with Marek Rzepka, and participated in masterclasses with Brigitte Fassbaender, Margit Fussi, Claudia Visca, Kurt Equiluz, Robert Holl, András Schiff and Franz Welser-Möst.
Together with the pianist Richard Fu she won first prize at the 2024 Wigmore Hall/Bollinger International Song Competition. In 2026 she won the prestigious Emmerich Smola Förderpreis and the orchestra prize at the SWR Kultur Junge Opernstars competition. In 2026 she was named Young Artist of the Year at the International Classical Music Awards (ICMA).
Engagements in recent seasons have taken Anja Mittermüller to Klosterneuburg Opera, the Konzerthaus and Musikverein in Vienna, the Bregenz Festival, the Kronberg Academy and the Heidelberg Spring Festival.
