Andrey Nemzer

The countertenor Andrey Nemzer trained at the Sveshnikov Choral College, the Victor Popov Academy of Choral Art in Moscow, and on a graduate programme at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh. In 2012 Andrey Nemzer won the first prize at the Metropolitan Opera’s Eric and Dominique Laffont Competition and in 2014 he was awarded the third prize in Plácido Domingo’s Operalia competition.

Engagements in recent seasons include Prince Orlofsky (Die Fledermaus) at the Bavarian State Opera in Munich and at the Metropolitan Opera, New York, Guardian of the Temple (Die Frau ohne Schatten), Narciso (Agrippina), the title role of Serse at the Pittsburgh Festival Opera, Agnes the Digger in Tobias Picker’s Fantastic Mr Fox at the Opera San Antonio and the title role of Rinaldo at the Royal Theatre in Victoria (Canada). He appeared at the Salzburg Festival in 2022 as the Sorceress in a concert performance of Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas and in 2023 as Ixbalanqué in Purcell’s The Indian Queen. He was a soloist in the Mendelssohn Choir of Pittsburgh, and since 2018 has been a soloist in the musicAeterna Choir.

The ensembles and orchestras with which Andrey Nemzer has worked include The Pocket Symphony Orchestra under Nazar Kozhukhar, the vocal ensemble Intrada under Ekaterina Antonenko, Questa Musica under Philipp Chizhevsky and the Berlin Philharmonic under Vladimir Jurowski.
