Anaïk Morel

French mezzo-soprano Anaïk Morel was born in Lyons and studied at the city’s Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique. In 2011 she was a prizewinner in the prestigious Queen Elisabeth Competition in Brussels.

From 2008 to 2010 Anaïk Morel was a member of the Bavarian State Opera in Munich, where her roles included Mercédès (Carmen), Fenena (Nabucco), Federica (Luisa Miller), Meg Page (Falstaff), Hänsel (Hänsel und Gretel), Silla (Palestrina) and Carlotta (Die schweigsame Frau). Since 2010 she has been heard at the Opéra national de Lyon, the Paris Opéra, the Opéra national de Lorraine, the Saarland State Theatre, the Stuttgart and Berlin State Operas, La Scala, Milan, and the Teatro Petruzzelli in Bari. She made her Salzburg Festival debut in 2014, when she took part in the world premiere of Marc-André Dalbavie’s opera Charlotte Salomon. In the course of the 2015/16 season she made her acclaimed role debut as Carmen at the Stuttgart State Opera, subsequently appearing in the part in Zurich and Montpellier. She has additionally been heard as Preziosilla (La forza del destino) at the Basel Theatre, as Charlotte (Werther) at the Klagenfurt Stadttheater, the Opéra du Rhin and the Zurich Opera and as Dido (Dido and Aeneas) at the Festival d’Aix-en-Provence. Her engagements during the 2018/19 season included Sesto (La clemenza di Tito) in Klagenfurt, the Composer (Ariadne auf Naxos) at the Théâtre du Capitole in Toulouse and her debut at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden as Carmen.

Plans for 2019/20 include the Composer and Carmen at the Hamburg State Opera and Mother Marie (Dialogues des Carmélites) in Toulouse.
