Alexander Malofeev

The Russian pianist Alexander Malofeev’s virtuosity and exceptional musical maturity make him one of the most outstanding artists of his generation. He came to international attention when at the age of 13 he won First Prize at the prestigious Tchaikovsky Competition for Young Musicians.

Since then, he has performed with numerous renowned orchestras worldwide, including the Philadelphia Orchestra, the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the Orchestra dell’Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, the Orchestra Filarmonica della Scala, the Lucerne Festival Orchestra, the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, the Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra, the BBC Symphony Orchestra and the Baltic Sea Philharmonic. He has also performed at La Folle Journée de Nantes, the Celebrity Series of Boston, and at international festivals including those of Verbier, Tanglewood and La Roque d’Anthéron, the Rheingau Music Festival and the International Piano Festival of Brescia and Bergamo.

Highlights of 2024/25 have included Rachmaninoff’s Second Piano Concerto with the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin under Elim Chan and concerts with the Orquestra Gulbenkian, the Stavanger Symphony Orchestra, the Gürzenich Orchestra in Cologne and the Hamburg Symphony Orchestra under Sylvain Cambreling. He has given recitals throughout Europe, America and Asia. In summer 2025 he makes his debuts at the Edinburgh and Salzburg Festivals with María Dueñas.

His interpretations of Russian composers such as Rachmaninoff, Prokofiev and Tchaikovsky are especially impressive. He has performed at prestigious concert halls such as Carnegie Hall, the Amsterdam Concertgebouw, the Vienna Musikverein, the Philharmonie de Paris, the Alte Oper Frankfurt, the Mariinsky Theatre in St Petersburg, the Tokyo Bunka Kaikan and the National Centre for the Performing Arts in Beijing. He works regularly with leading conductors such as Alain Altinoglu, Riccardo Chailly, Vladimir Fedoseyev, Kirill Karabits, Susanna Mälkki, Fabio Luisi, Yannick Nézet-Séguin, Alondra de la Parra, Vasily Petrenko, Mikhail Pletnev and Michael Tilson Thomas.

Alexander Malofeev has recently become an exclusive artist with Sony Classical and is preparing his first solo album. He was born in Moscow in 2001, studied at the Gnessin School of Music and at the Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Moscow, and since 2022 has lived in Berlin.
